Our Timetable

Our Learning
At Aoraki Mount Cook School our teaching and learning are guided by the Aotearoa New Zealand Curriculum (NZC). This curriculum provides a framework for all schools, ensuring that our students receive a broad and balanced education designed to help them develop the knowledge, skills, and values they need for lifelong learning. It's built around a vision for young people who are confident, connected, actively involved, and lifelong learners.
At Aoraki Mount Cook School, we integrate Te Reo Māori across all curriculum areas, reflecting our commitment to biculturalism and the revitalisation of the language.

Arts
The Arts engage students in creative expression and appreciation. This includes dance, drama, music, and visual arts. Students develop their imagination, learn to communicate ideas and feelings creatively, and understand various art forms.

English
This area focuses on how students make meaning of the world through language. It covers listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We help children become confident communicators, develop a love of reading, and express themselves clearly in their writing, preparing them for all aspects of life.

Health and PE
Health and PE are all about well-being and movement. Students learn about their physical, mental, and emotional health, safety, and healthy relationships. They also develop physical skills, participate in various activities, and learn the importance of an active lifestyle.

Languages
This area encourages students to learn an additional language. It helps them understand different cultures, communicate with a wider range of people, and appreciate linguistic diversity. At AMCS we focus on Te Reo Māori and NZSL.

Mathematics and Statistics
Students develop an understanding of numbers, patterns, and shapes, and learn how to solve problems using mathematical thinking. They also learn to work with data and statistics, which helps them make sense of information and the world around them.

Science
Science is about exploring the natural and physical world. Students learn to ask questions, experiment, gather evidence, and understand scientific concepts. This area sparks curiosity and helps them develop critical thinking skills about how things work.

Social Science
This area helps students understand people, places, and societies. They learn about history, cultures, economics, and how communities function both in New Zealand and globally. It encourages students to think critically about different perspectives and their place in the world.

Technology
In Technology, students learn about designing and creating solutions to problems. This involves understanding how technology works, developing practical skills, and considering the impact of technology on people and the environment. It ranges from traditional crafts to digital innovation.

Yr 7 & 8 Tech
In Technology at Years 7 and 8, students learn to design and create real things! They work with wood, metal, and plastics (Hard Materials), fabrics and textiles (Soft Materials), and food (Food Technology). They discover how these materials work, develop practical skills to build and make, and think about how their creations impact the world around them.
