Welcome to Aoraki Mount Cook School

Aoraki Mount Cook School is a small, vibrant rural primary school nestled in the heart of the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.

Established in 1960, we warmly welcome students from New Entrant (5 year olds) to Year 8 (13 yr olds). Most of our students come from families working within the local park, creating a tight-knit school community. With a diverse student body typically ranging from 6 to 18 students, we proudly represent multiple cultures.

We focus on helping every student reach their full potential by prioritising cultural identity, environmental education, literacy, numeracy, creativity, and digital literacy. We celebrate our rich cultural diversity, provide strong support for English language learners, and ensure a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for everyone.

Our small class sizes mean every child receives personalised attention and support. We're also very proud of our strong community partnerships and our positive reputation within both local and wider education circles.

As a state-funded primary school, we proudly follow the Aotearoa New Zealand Curriculum and are an active member of the Te Manahuna cluster of schools.
